Medical Marijuana And Migraine

Although commonly mistaken as a "headache" the neurological disease Migraine affects millions of Americans and can be quite debilitating. Did you know marijuana is one of the best medications for this debilitating illness?

Is Medical Marijuana Prescribed For Migraine?

Yes. It is today, and has been for a very long time. "Marijuana has been recommended for debilitating migraine since the 6th century, including numerous references in the medical literature of the late 19th and early 20th centuries."

Will Medical Marijuana Get Rid Of My Headache?

It's not that simple, but in many instances not only will it help you get rid of one you have, it can stop them from coming.

"Cannabis was a standard treatment for migraines from the mid-19th century until it was outlawed in the early 20th century in the USA. It has been reported to help people through an attack by relieving the nausea and dulling the head pain, as well as possibly preventing the headache completely when used as soon as possible after the onset of pre-migraine symptoms, such as aura. There is some indication that semi-regular use may reduce the frequency of attacks. Further studies are being conducted. Some migraine sufferers report that cannabis decreases throbbing and pain, especially if smoked." - From Migraine Patients Need Medical Marijuana

I've touched upon this before in Medical Marijuana And Migraines.

(As usual, I do not encourage "smoking" cannabis as it does have negative side effects, however, by using a vaporizer you negate all that.)

My Personal Migraine Experience

Sometimes my "headaches" are so bad that I have to lay down in a dark room, avoid light, sound, and get nausea really bad. And yes, medical cannabis makes daily Migraine pain easier to manage, makes it easier to eat stuff, and also gets rid of some of the anxiety too. I get panic attacks and anxiety sometimes and this is a bonus side effect.

I have written a lot about "Medical Marijuana And Migraines" over the years and will continue to. I really believe that, although it may not be the best answer for some, this is the perfect answer for many who suffer from daily headaches, tension, anxiety, and many other productivity reducing ills.

When I get a headache it removes me from functioning in life - I can't stand it, so medical cannabis allows me to live a better life. My headaches stop me from working, from spending time with my wife, and doing things I enjoy.

What Are The Risks Compared To Modern Medicine?

I will be honest, one thing that scared me was all the controversy regarding much of the medicine used to combat Migraines. Many of the medication is actually Epilepsy medicine (at this time) and side effects do in fact include death, and one really negative side effect is addiction. Read up on the commonly prescribed Migraine medicine and you'll see what I mean, scary stuff.

Medical Marijuana can be used in the morning, just after breakfast, before lunch to combat nausea, after work from eye strain looking at computer which is means of employment, and before bed to help fight headaches while you sleep. I know personally, I wake up in the midle of the night with a throbbing head sometimes. Medical marijuana helps you sleep, while fighting off migraine inflammation without any of the risk associated with neurological medication.

Regarding The Safety Of Medical Marijuana For Migraines

“My opinion about the efficacy and relative safety of cannabis is widely known, since I’ve made no secret of my feelings the last few years. Cannabis is the single most versatile herbal remedy, and the most useful plant on Earth,” Dr Ethan Russo has two decades experience as a pioneering neurologist helping children and adult patients suffering from migraines.
